Whatchu Lookin’ At? is a work from the You Is Pretty Series, 2018 that was created from paper from the Jacob Lawrence studio archive. The piece is an Afro-Surrealist collage that challenges the notion of agency and black beauty. This metaphorical interlocutor casts a wide net among chameleons, agent provocateurs, goddesses. My collage portraiture conveys allegory, fantasy, femininity, resilience and all that is inherently complex in the black female imaginary.
