"The image is of my grandmother’s sister, Zola Agatha Hunt, in her front yard in the Bronx in the 1959. This was her first home after moving from Kingston Jamaica to New York. She was one of the biggest matriarchs in our family, cooking Sunday dinner for all of us well into the 90s.
She never forgot her roots from Jamaica and often showed off her Caribbean Spice by cooking up a good dish of curried goat, codfish with ackee, jerked chicken or a savory roast beef or pot luck stew. Her food was good enough to knock your socks off with all of the tender loving care and her expert attention to detail in preparing it for family and friends. Her other favorite thing to do was to work around her yard planting beautiful flowers and plants to liven up her landscaping. However many days she enjoyed settling in to a recess of silence to meditate and spend quality time in transcendental thought and reflection about her life and all the arbitrary things that filled up her daily life. “ - Adee Roberson
